Early life
Roald Amundsen was born on the 16th of July, 1872 near Oslo, Norway. His father is Jens Amundsen and his mother was Hanna Sahlqvist. He was also the fourth son in the family. As a young child he admired sir Jhon Franklin the polar explorer and wanted to become a polar explorer like Jhon Franklin. He had the dream of becoming the first person to reach the north pole. However, after his farther died when he was 14, his mother pushed him to learn medicines and to become a doctor. When his mother died, Amundsen was 21, he turned his career to polar exploration. He devoted a great deal of time to training and strengthening his physique to make his body fit enough for the hazardous adventures he was determined to undertake.
